If you notice a page on Facebook that represents your own business but was created by someone else by simply checking into that place or location, you can claim that page and then merge it with your official Facebook page. Here are quick easy steps to doing just that:

Step 1: Go to the Page you want to claim and click on the “gear icon” -> “Is this your business?”

Step 2: Select the “I am an official representative of xxx” and follow the next steps

Step 3: Verify your business information, such as the address, website

Step 4: Claim the page to gain full control by supplying proper verification details: business Email or uploaded Documentation. Click Submit.

Step 5: Wait for one week to get approval. Once your request has been accepted, you are now admin to the claimed page and you may merge it with your official Page that represent the same thing, have similar name and address.

So you want to maintain an active Facebook page for your business, but your busy schedule keeps you from being online regularly to interact with fans and potential customers through engaging daily posts.

Fret not, as Facebook has made way for users to manage their page better by allowing them to schedule posts in advance. Here are a few easy steps to doing just that:

Step 1: On the sharing tool of your main page, click on the “clock icon” at the bottom left

Step 2: Add the Year, Month, Day, Hour and Minute you want your post to be up

Step 3: Type in/upload your scheduled post and click “Post”, which puts it on standby mode

Tip 1: You can actually do retroactive posting. Just follow the same steps with a specific date that is already in the past. This immediately gets posted at the appropriate place in your page’s timeline.

The “Hide from news feed” option below comes in handy here, so as to not confuse others with a post that appears to be expired/dated

Tip 2: You can change the schedule or delete an unpublished post by simply going to “Edit Page” -> “Use Activity Log”

You may also schedule posts six months in advance, in ten-minute intervals.

If you have any questions, post them in the comments below or on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/WideBaySocialMedia.

Naturally, once you’ve created your own Facebook business page, you might want a business partner or assistant to co-manage the page with you. This is helpful when you will be going away for a vacation and won’t be able to go online regularly to check and update the page yourself. You may even assign your co-administrator to take on minor responsibilities like screening Facebook comments, uploading photos, and posting simple copy daily.

Here are a few easy steps on how to add an administrator to your business page:

Step 1: Log in to your Facebook page and click on “Edit Page” -> “Admin Roles”

Step 2: On the blank space, indicate the name or email address of the person you want to make an admin

Step 3: Specify what kind of role by clicking on “Manager” and choosing from the list

Step 4: You may add another administrator by clicking “Add Another Admin” and repeating Step 2 and 3

Step 5: Click “Save” and confirm by entering your password

You can also change someone’s admin role or remove an administrator in the “Admin Roles” easily.

We hope this helps! If you have other questions, post them in the comments below or on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/WideBaySocialMedia.

Having two Facebook business pages for the same business can cause your customers to ‘like’ the one you are not posting to, resulting in wasted effort by you!

It is easy to merge them together and you will keep all your friends since they will get converted to fans. Here are a few easy steps to follow when merging two duplicate Pages together.

Firstly, if one of the business pages is set up incorrectly as a person, change the personal profile into a page (by clicking here), then complete the steps below.

Step 1: From your Facebook profile account that manages two Pages representing the same thing and with similar names, go to the Page with fewer likes

Step 2: Click “Edit Page” -> “Update Info” -> “Resources”

Step 3: Click the “Merge duplicate pages” link that only appears if you manage two Pages with similar names

Step 4: Choose the page you want to keep and the page you want to merge

Note that merging Pages should have the same address information.

Also by doing this action, all the files from the Page with fewer likes – all posts, photos, and username will be deleted permanently, while its likes and check-ins will be combined with the likes and check-ins of the Page you’re keeping.

To watch a video on this process click here

If you are not an admin of one of the Facebook pages you want to merge there is a different process to follow: click here to watch a video on how to do this.

And there you have it! Aside from getting more organized, it saves you from having to force fans to like the other business page.

If you have any questions, post them in the comments below or on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/WideBaySocialMedia. We also offer a service to convert and merge all your pages for you for $200+GST. Contact us if you would like to know more.

If you are still using a personal Facebook profile for your business, you may want to consider changing it to a business page.

The risks of not changing your businesses incorrectly set up Facebook profile to a business page are:

It is against Facebook terms and conditions and they could (and they often do) delete your page without warning. This means you will lose your entire page and all your friends/fans.

It does not look professional and your customers could perceive your business as “amateur looking”.

Your Facebook account will also be able to see the personal information of every person that is “friends” with your business. I consider this a privacy risk and duty of care to my customers that I do not want to expose them and my business to.

(Click here to find out how to check if your business is set up as a “personal profile” or a “business page”)

Also note if you have both a personal profile and business page for your business, you can merge them together and you will keep all the fans from both. But the first step is to convert the profile to a page, then you merge the two pages together.

Note if you are keeping this personal profile as a “office login” that everyone in the office can use to manage the business page from there is a better way to do this. Add every person that needs to use the page as an administrator separately via their normal Facebook login. This is a much more secure and easily managed method.

The benefits of changing your profile over to a business page are:

All your friends will be converted to “fans”, which means you do not lose any of the likes you have worked so hard to get

Facebook business pages have access to “analytics”. You can see great statistics on how many people have been reading what you write, you can see your most popular posts, you can see the ages, location of your fans and more.

You can install customized applications on your Facebook page that can give a host of features, such as email sign up boxes, ability to create events, show calendars, running competitions, and more

You get access to Facebook advertising and offers. This is the cheapest and most targeted form of advertising on the planet, I believe. It is awesome, we use it all the time for our clients and ourselves and get incredible results for a low spend.

Others can administer (post to your page) without you giving them access to your personal information

No limit on your fans (personal accounts are limited to 5000 friends)

Additional things to consider before changing it over:

You will need a personal Facebook account (under your own name) that will become an “administrator” of the site. You will login to this and manage your business page from there. (Don’t worry, no one visiting the business page can see any links to your personal profile.)

You cannot undo the process

You will lose access to some features of Facebook that are only given to personal users, though– tagging photos of fans, sending messages to fans, post directly to fans walls

You will lose all the photos and status updates on your wall – but you can back this up – instructions below

If the business personal profile is an admin of any other pages or groups, you need to add a new admin before converting your profile to a page. Click here to find out how to add yourself as an admin to the page.

So you know you should change it over and you are ready to do it. To go ahead and change your profile to a page, these are the steps you must follow (if you don’t want to do this yourself, we offer this as a service, contact us for details):

Step 1. Back up your information (such as your photos and wall posts)

Only your friends/fans, username and profile photo will be kept. If you need anything else then back it up.

You can back this up, though, by going to “gear icon” -> “Account Settings” -> “download a copy of your Facebook data”. If you only have a couple of things you want to keep then you can back any photos up one at a time by clicking on them all, and right clicking and selecting “save as”.

Step 2: Change your profile name

Your name is harder to change once you change the profile to a page, so do this first by visiting your business and clicking on “gear icon” -> “Account Settings” ->“Name” -> “Edit”

Step 3: Change the address and name to match your other page exactly

(This step is only required if you have both a profile and a page for your business.)

To enable you to merge your business profile and business page, they must have exactly the same name, address and phone number listed. Change this now before you convert the profile to a page.

Visit your business profile, click on “Update Info” -> “Basic Information” –> “Edit”

Step 4: Change your personal Facebook profile to a Business Page

Visit https://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php?migrate

Choose your correct page category, and follow the prompts. This is the same process to setting up a page for the first time.

Step 5: Now your profile is converted to a page and you have all the new features available!

Now if you started with a profile and a page for your business, you now have to merge these two together. Click here to discover how to do this.

To claim and merge a duplicate Facebook page for your business, click here.

I hope this has been useful! This is one of the most common questions I get asked when talking to business people. If you have any questions, post them in the comments below or on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/WideBaySocialMedia.

You may have read in the news today that Facebook are (yet again you may be saying) revamping their News Feed for we, their dear and beloved users. There are several reasons for this change. The first is so that Facebook can continue to do what it does for account holders, you and me, for free by improving their advertising options. They will also be streamlining the News Feed across mobile and desktop. So what you see on your computer at home will also look the same as what you will see on your mobile while you are out and about.

What does this mean if you have a Facebook Page? Well at the moment we are still finding out what changes will be occurring, but here are some:

Apparently there will be a preview of your cover photo, just a snapshot of the lower section, that will appear above your Page’s Profile Picture once someone has liked your page – this will display to their friends (very good for spreading the word about your Business). You will want to take a look and see what is in the lower section of your cover image to make sure it is still eye-catching and engaging for viewers

There is an option where you can see all the posts by pages you have liked, called ‘Follow’. Facebook is giving us more options for sorting how we see different types of information in our News Feed.

The new News Feed will have a more visual appeal similar to that of Instagram and Pinterest. People love photos and videos, so Facebook is making the most of that for our viewing pleasure!

Overall we feel the changes will create less clutter and will benefit users making is easier to use and more engaging. Let’s hope that the ads don’t annoy people as much as they have done in the past.

To get on the waiting list for the new look News Feed go here and to find out more from Facebook go here.

For most businesses these days, having a significant online presence is crucial. Your business may be on Facebook but you may be on other platforms as well such as Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest.

If your business is very visual and you have a lot of images that you share about your business, you may find having a Pinterest account can do wonders for getting interest in your products and services and driving more traffic to your website. You can find out more about Pinterest and create a Business Pinterest account here.

If you reach out to your customers via a Facebook Fan Page AND you are on Pinterest you’ll be glad to know that there is an application you can put on your Facebook Page that connects your fans to your Pinterest boards! After much research, we’ve found out that Woobox still provides the most widely used app for this and we’re going to show you how you can create a Pinterest tab on your Facebook Page! AND, in less that ten easy steps.

Here goes:

Step 1: Make sure that you’re logged in to your Facebook account and you are on your Business Page

Step 2: Open another tab or window on your Internet Browser and go to www.woobox.com

Step 3: Click on the Pinterest option at the bottom left portion of your screen

Step 4: Click on the “Install Pinterest Tab” button

Step 5: The button automatically takes you to your Facebook Page settings. Select the Page where you want to place the Pinterest tab. Click on “Add Page Tab”.

Step 6: Click on the “Authorize the Tab Application” button

Step 7: Make sure to check the visibility setting of the Pinterest tab on your page. When you’re done, click on “Go to App”.

Step 8: Type in your Pinterest username. The Pinterest Tab Settings also allows you whether to show all or just specific pin boards from your Pinterest.

You can also enable Facebook ‘Like’ and ‘Send’ buttons on Pins through Share Options.

Keep the FanGate option “Off” so everyone can see your Pinterest tab without having to Like the Facebook Page. When you’re done making all the necessary changes, click on “Save Settings”.

Step 9: Click on “View Tab” at the upper right portion of your screen, which will immediately lead you to the Pinterest tab.

We are often asked about who actually sees the post that you ‘post’ for your page or from your personal account. Have you ever wondered who your status update goes out to once you click on ‘Post’?

Facebook is a big world these days with a lot of users and its gotten to the stage where people on Facebook are feeling a bit like – “Well, I’m not sure who is going to end up reading this?”, “I don’t want my old boyfriend to read this or my competitor down the road to see this!” and even, “Because I saw their post in my News Feed, that means that they will see my post, right?” – WRONG!

Take a look at this simple outline for who will see your post from either your personal profile or your business page:

If you are using Facebook as your person, ie. in the top right hand corner of your Facebook screen, you see your name and your profile picture (not your page’s) then once you do a status update (or post), only your friends that you are connected to on Facebook can see your post. Your post will go out into the News Feeds of your friends.

You can change who sees your post while you create the post using the Audience Selector which is located to the left of the ‘Post’ button.

Other Facebook Business Pages cannot see your personal profile status updates. So if you are seeing posts by a page in your News Feed – that does not mean that they are seeing yours.

If you are using Facebook as your Business Page, then things are a little different. Each time you do a post from your page, it will go into the News Feeds of your fans. A fan is someone who has ‘liked’ your page. So if your page has 45 fans, then the most number of people who may see it in their News Feed is 45.

If someone was to visit your page on Facebook who is not currently a fan (ie. they haven’t ‘liked’ your page), they will still be able to see all the posts made by your page as page posts are public. They just won’t see your post appear in their News Feed each time you create a new one.

We hope this simple, basic outline helps you to get it straight in your mind about who is seeing what of you on Facebook! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
